Gary Spicer - Owner
Twenty-four years ago a letter was sent to London, England inviting Gary Spicer to bring his jewellery expertise to Saint John, New Brunswick Canada.
In 1991 after visiting and falling in love with Canada’s East Coast, the Spicers packed up their two young sons and began their adventure with a custom design and manufacturing studio for Birks: one of Canada's most prestigious jewellery brands.
After working in the Saint John area, the Spicers opened their first business, Spicer Smith & Co., and soon after Gary started the Goldsmith Studio in Sears. Expanding even further came the joint business of Spicer Cole Fine Jewellers in Fredericton with partner Stephen Cole, and then Spicer Jewellery in McAllister Place Mall- the largest jewellery store to date and primary working location.
The Spicers have worked to launch businesses that have grown exponentially over the past two decades. Sons Carl and Elliott have followed in the family business, each operating fine jewellery establishments, La Mine D’Or in Moncton NB, and Spicer Greene in Asheville, North Carolina.
Stephen Cole - Owner
A native New Brunswicker, Stephen Cole was raised in Riverview and attended the University of New Brunswick. In 1995, he entered the jewellery industry, becoming the President of Just Silver Inc., a retail company specializing in silver jewellery and giftware. Under Stephen’s leadership, the company grew to four locations in Southern New Brunswick, employing over 25 people.
In 2002, Spicer Cole Fine Jewellers was launched to deliver quality diamond and fine jewellery products to customers in Fredericton and the surrounding areas. In 2012, the first store location in the Regent Mall was built specializing in loose diamonds and Custom jewellery products.
Recognizing the vital importance of product knowledge for his customers, Stephen has continued his education in the jewellery industry. He has acquired the designations of Accredited Jewellery Professional and Diamonds Graduate from the Gemological Institute of America, Registered Jeweller from the American Gem Society (AGS), and Accredited Appraiser from the Canadian Jewellers Association. Stephen was a board member of the Canadian Jewellers Association for seven years, a director for three and the Co-Chair during the association's centennial year in 2018. Spicer Cole is the most accredited diamond store in Atlantic Canada and the only remaining AGS jewellery store.
